Not that long ago, I darned a hole in the ball of the foot on one of my Simplicity socks (pattern by Janel Laidman) and shared the process with you.
A couple days ago, I went to wear them again (having worn and hand-washed them a couple of times in the interim). Here’s what I found:
What’s the deal? Well, I knit these socks out of Dream in Color’s Smooshy, which is 100% merino. I think the lessons I am learning here are:
- I should consider reinforcing heels (and perhaps the ball of the foot) when knitting socks out of a yarn that does not contain nylon already, at least if I plan to wear them places other than to bed.
- I should knit soft, yummy socks yarns like Smooshy at a tighter gauge.
- I need to use more hand cream. I was disturbed by how dry my skin looked in the photos!
